Please tell us the key demands of your role?

Balancing the many demands of the people I interact with and being mindful of the various differing priorities of the senior level stakeholders. One of the hardest demands (apart from dealing with my boss, the CEO, on a daily basis) is balancing being approachable to everyone internally and externally and the need to retain a certain amount of distance due to the seniority of my position and the information I’m party to.

Why do you believe that you should be shortlisted or, give us an example of when you have demonstrated the abilities attributed to your category?

I believe I should be shortlisted as it is the right time in my career. I’ve worked for Colt since 2003 starting as a team administrator and 12 years later, having supported a number of executives, I became EA to the CEO after being handpicked for the role.

The networking I do has allowed me to bring in some exceptional talent to support our senior team, build an incredible network internally and externally both in the UK and overseas. I encourage all of our assistants to join local networks as well as our informal network internally. I have also hosted some EPAA events, including getting our CEO to speak at one of them, which has allowed me to showcase the company as well as meet even more people.

I have spent the last 9 months encouraging and training my junior assistant, the first time I’ve had a direct report. She joined straight from university so the training and mentoring has been intense and covered a very wide array of topics and skill sets. I have actively encouraged her to spend time not only with her peers (we launched our first ever grad scheme in 2016) but also to use the people she was interacting with every day to help build her knowledge base and learn from them, which meant spending time with our VPs, managers and other staff. I have watched her grow in confidence and skills and I’m very proud of what she has achieved.

If you had one superpower for your role as a PA, what would it be?

Well I can read minds already so leaping tall buildings in a single bound to keep up with my boss!
